How it works technically
A container (MP4, MKV, MOV, WebM) is a wrapper; the codec (H.264, H.265, VP9, AV1) is the actual compression. We compare the source codec against what the target container can legally hold. If it fits, we run FFmpeg with -c copy and only the wrapper changes. If it does not — VP9 into MP4, for example — we re-encode, and only then does it take real processing time.
Frequently asked questions
Which format should I choose?
MP4 unless you have a specific reason not to — it plays on every phone, browser, TV and editor. WebM is smaller for the web but less widely supported; MKV is best for archiving because it holds almost anything; MOV is the natural fit for Apple editing tools.
What happens to my file after processing?
It is deleted automatically. Your result is stored in a temporary folder for a short window so you can download it, then removed permanently along with any intermediate files. We do not publish, index, share or keep your media, and we never use it to train AI models.
Do I need to install any software?
No. Everything runs in your browser and on our servers, so it works the same on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iPhone. There is no app to install and no account to create.
Can I process any video I find online?
Only content you own or are otherwise permitted to process. The service works with publicly accessible links and does not bypass DRM, paywalls, sign-in or any other access control. You are responsible for having the rights to the material you submit.
